Mint

A huge and varied group, popular for a myriad of both medicinal and culinary uses. Teas used to treat a number of ailments, including coughs, colds, and flu.  The menthol oil is effective as a topical anaesthetic.  In the kitchen, it is the traditional partner of lamb, and is used to flavor drinks, salads, and candies; attractive to butterflies, repels insects, and will grow rampantly in any moist area.

Kentucky Colonel

A named variety of spearmint.  Can be used in any recipe calling for spearmint, including mint sauce and mint jelly.  Put a sprig in your iced tea (or something slightly stronger), close your eyes and imagine you're in the winner's circle at Churchhill Downs on the first Saturday in May.

 
Pineapple variegated

Green and white variegation;  full sun to pt shade; like all mints, leaves fragrant when brushed or crushed; also ambitious and spreads rapidly so best in a container unless aggressive growth is desired;  shear back to rejuvenate foliage; hardy in our area
